What is CIF

Chalmers Islamiska Förening (CIF) is a non political student association at Chalmers University of Technology.

We at CIF offer a wide range of activities, among which the most notable is the daily prayers. The Friday prayer which we arrange every week at the motionhall located at the heart of the student union building in Johanneberg. This is our most populous and heavily attended activity, which we are very proud of. The Friday sermon is open for all Muslims in the area of Chalmers. We are proud to present many prominent preachers at our Friday prayers and intend to invite many more.

Moreover, we arrange seminars, meetings, lectures  and, during the holy month of Ramadan we at CIF strive to accommodate our members for Iftar.

You can also find activities that celebrate Islamic holidays with the aim to strengthen the brotherhood and unity of our members.

Our mission is :

  • Strengthening Islamic brotherhood and sisterhood among the Muslims at CTH.
  • Arranging activities well suited for Muslims at CTH.
  • Providing information about Islam.

CIF is open to every person who is interested in Islam. This organization and its members shall not discriminate against any individual(s) for reasons of age, color, disability, gender identity or religious belief.

History of CIF

CIF was founded by four Muslim brothers studying at Chalmers in 1998. The original intention of starting the association was to acquire a prayer room for Muslims studying at Chalmers – this was something only possible to do if a proper Chalmers association existed. Despite intensive lobbying and attempts during 1998 and 1999 the brothers were not successful in acquiring the room.

During 2000 the Chalmers Main Administration referred the CIF board to the Student Union Association who were currently rebuilding the Student Union House. It was said there would be rooms available in the new Student Union House. CIF dully applied for a small prayer room in the new Union House – however in 2001 in competition with other associations it failed to acquire a room.

By the year 2000 CIF had grown by the Grace of Allah and now had about 30 members. It performed various activities such as Jumah prayer, Coffee Gatherings, picnics, dinners, Taraweeh prayers and so forth. By the Grace of Allah and the vibrant board members, CIF has been active since then, being the face of Muslim representation at Chalmers.
